Quarter 2, Week 1

Language Arts: We will be learning 24 new spelling words this week, and taking our second spelling benchmark test to see how much we have learned so far in 3rd. A new poem will be assigned: Catch a little rhyme by Eve Marriam. We will turn our focus to writing this week and learn imitation writing. This emergent writing skill teaches children to imitate beautiful writing to enrich their own. Our next literature story will be The Chronicles of Narnia, but we will not begin for three weeks. Our reading focus will be turned toward comprehension and story skills.

Math: We will finish unit 3 this week by practicing division concepts. There will be a quiz on Friday.  Don’t forget to practice multiplication flashcards at home regularly! Can you volunteer for math groups Wednesday morning? Sign up on the Sign Up Genius.

History: Students will be introduced to the Roman Empire. They will begin with an investigation of the Mediterranean Region as well as the geography of this area. A closer look at “legends” or “myths” as to how Rome was created and the historic time-line for significant events.

Science: This week, students will begin learning about the human body, starting with the building blocks of life, cells!
