Quarter 1, Week 7:

Language Arts: We have a normal week of spelling with a test Friday. We will be memorizing “The Eletelephony” by Laura Richards. Children should review daily at home. Recitations will be on Sept 25.

Math: This week we are excited to venture into becoming proficient with our multiplication facts. Initially students will be recognizing their facts as arrays of things in organized rows and columns. Using the “expression” (5x6) to create their own “array”, and recognize “arrays” as specific mathematical “expressions”.  Can you volunteer for math groups Wednesday morning? History: Students will continue to take a closer look at our northern neighboring country, Canada, and examine the War in Canada. In addition, they will discuss the causes and results of this war. Later in the week they will also explore how Canada expands west, just as our own country did in it’s years of discovery. Expanded vocabulary words will continue to be added to their library. Students are also continuing to research their own chosen Provinces of Canada and collect important information that they will present to their classmates at the end of this month. 

Science: Students will begin learning about the M in “MR. FAB”...Mammals!

Quarter 1, Week 6:

Language Arts: We have a normal week of spelling. There will be a spelling test on Friday. For grammar we will learn to diagram helping verbs and proper nouns.  We will be memorizing “The Crocodile” by Lewis Carroll. Children should review it a bit daily at home. Recitations will be on Wednesday the 11th. Next, we will be memorizing Eletelephony by Laura Richards.

History: This week in History the students will begin the unit studying about our most  northern neighbor, Canada. There is much to know about this country and it’s early links to the establishment of our own United States of America. Later they will learn about the Vikings ventures into the northern reaches of North America and how that later becomes the passage by which colonists from England will venture for freedom from persecution from religion. 

Science: Students will learn about the life cycle of frogs. They will also begin learning about the B in “MR. FAB”...Birds!

Quarter 1, Week 5:

Language Arts: This week we will do 15 words on Tuesday and 15 on Wednesday. There will be a spelling test on Friday. For grammar we will review what we have learned this year and there will be a test on Friday. A study guide (that looks suspiciously like the test) will be handed out on Tuesday. Our first literature book is Pinocchio. Your child must have the book to participate in literature.  We will be memorizing “The Crocodile” by Lewis Carroll. Children should review it a bit daily at home. Recitations will be on Wednesday the 11th.

History: This week in Geography, the students will be reading from the History and Geography text books, studying rivers of the world and how they have affected trade. An array of vocabulary words related to this unit will be reviewed for a Thursday quiz. Notes will be used as well as open book to research information. 

Science: Students will write an informative paragraph on a specific fish independently. We will have a short in-class quiz on Vertebrates and Invertebrates on Friday. Students will also begin learning about the A in “MR. FAB”...Amphibians!
