Language Arts:
This week we will continue working on our Spalding rule pages. We will be working on the “er” pages: Her first nurse works early.  For grammar we will begin adverbs. Our first literature book is Pinocchio. Your child must have the book to participate in literature.  We are currently memorizing “The Bee” by Isaac Watts. Children should review it a bit daily at home. Recitations will be on Wednesday the 28th. Recitations are an individual effort so you may want to rehearse at home in front of a family audience.

Math:
We will continue to work on Addition and Subtraction skills with a focus on mental math strategies. There will be a quick Quiz on Monday to check for understanding after the lesson. Later in the week we will turn our focus toward estimation. This integrates rounding so please practice at home! Round is one of the more challenging concepts for children at this age. There will be a short quiz on Friday to check for understanding with estimation. History:
In Geography, the students may be reviewing some landforms and identifying their definitions. Then we will begin our unit on how “Rivers Bring Life to Farms and Cities.” They will be exploring the vocabulary names related to parts of a river. They will also explore some of the different rivers of the world, such as the Ganges, Indus, Murray, and the Mississippi Rivers. This unit will introduce the students to the many ways the  rivers provide for us each day of our lives in very critical ways.

Science:
This week students will learn more differences and similarities between reptiles and fish. Students will write an informative paragraph on a specific fish based on the most important or interesting facts from an article.
